North Toronto Players is holding auditions for “Chelsea Moore Castle (or: the Contract to Marry)”. Book and Lyrics by Michael Harms and Barb Scheffler with music by Arthur Sullivan. Join us for the remount of this hilarious musical by the team that created Lear Incorporated and The Millionaire. Downton Abby meets Hamlet and Oscar Wilde as Chelsea Moore Castle uses the best of Gilbert and Sullivan’s music to tell a story of love, duty and pedigree. 
 

Directed by Michael Harms

We are looking for singers with comedic ability. Familiarity with Gilbert and Sullivan, Opera and Operetta is a plus, but NTP is open to singers with contemporary or musical theatre singing styles.

Major Roles:

William (a foundling) – Tenor romantic lead, M 20’s to early 30’s

Millicent (daughter of a Duchess) – Soprano romantic lead, F 20’s to early 30’s

Tom Jones (the heir) – Baritone comedic lead, M 30’s to 50’s 

Archibald Haddington-Smythe III (a social climber) – Tenor or High Baritone comedic lead, M any age

Lady Delilah Bilkington, Duchess of Forest Hillingtonshire (an aristocrat) – 

Mezzo Soprano, comedic lead, F 40’s or above

Lady Felicity Puddingsworth (a ghostly relation) – Mezzo Soprano or Soprano, comedic lead, fem 40’s or above

Cadbury (a Butler) Bass or Low Baritone, comedic lead, distinguished masc. 

Smaller Roles: 

Mrs. Garret (a Housekeeper) – Mezzo Soprano, F any age

Zeboriah, (a Castle Ghost) - Mezzo Soprano, F any age

Dulcibella, (a Castle Ghost) - Soprano, F any age

The Player King (an Actor) – Bass or Bass Baritone, distinguished M

The Player Duchess (an Actor) - Mezzo Soprano, F any age

The Player Daughter (an Actor) - Soprano, F any age

NTP is committed to inclusive casting. We encourage submissions from artists of all genders, ethnicities, and abilities. The genders and voice types indicated above are from the original production and may be reconsidered.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Sides and music from the show will be provided to interested Actor/Singers. Singers could also prepare a piece from the Gilbert and Sullivan canon or a similar operetta or musical theatre piece appropriate to their voice type. You will be asked to read a scene from the libretto at the audition. If you are not selected for a named role we invite you to join the chorus.

PRODUCTION DETAILS

Rehearsals for leads are part time and somewhat flexible until production week. Staging Rehearsals involving the Chorus are on Monday evenings with additional Saturday daytime rehearsals beginning in January. Leads only rehearsals will be arranged around the lead’s schedules.

The evening rehearsals leading up to opening night - Monday March 4^th to Thursday March 7^th  are mandatory.

Chelsea Moore Castle will Open Friday March 8 for 7 performances over two weekends: Mar 8, 9, 10 & 15, 16, 17 at the Paper Mill Theatre, 67 Pottery Rd, Toronto

Auditions are open to Equity and Non Equity actors. Equity members will be engaged under the D.O.T. Amateur contract. NTP and its rehearsal and performance venues will follow current public health protocols.
